This Move-In Came with Handcuffs Instead of Luggage
Most new arrivals at Buda Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care show up with suitcases. Daffy Sugar S. showed up in handcuffs.
The community’s Christmas elf made quite the entrance in December 2025, arriving courtesy of the Buda Police Department. Officers delivered the pint-sized troublemaker in the back of a patrol car on December first. Executive Director Susan LaBree watched as an officer opened the vehicle doors to release Daffy Sugar S., who walked away with nothing more than a stern warning for his pre-arrival antics.
Cameras Captured Every Second of the Stunt
The surprise caught Susan, some residents, and staff completely off guard. Video footage shows the officer escorting the elf from the patrol car to the community entrance in Buda, TX, where residents and staff waited to meet their newest and most unpredictable December guest.

Even the Executive Director Didn’t See This Coming
Susan has greeted countless new faces at the door, but this marked a first in her career. The patrol car’s arrival left her wondering what exactly she was about to witness.
“I’ve welcomed a lot of people through our doors, but this was a first,” she said. “When I saw that police car pull up, I had no idea what was happening. Then the officer opened the door and out stepped this little elf who’d apparently been causing trouble on his way here. The Buda Police Department was good enough to let him off easy, though I’m pretty sure Santa had to pull some strings. Now that he’s here, I’m already wondering what he’ll get into next.”
