Buda Oaks Brought Holiday Cheer to Travis County Through Brown Santa Program

As the holidays drew near, residents and team members at Buda Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care joined together for a special project focused on giving back. Everyone pitched in to sew handmade teddy bears and gather children’s books for the Travis County Sheriff’s Office Brown Santa Program, filling the weeks before December with creativity and community spirit.

This effort was a wonderful way for residents to support local families and take part in the holiday season. Every handmade bear and donated book was a heartfelt gift meant to bring comfort and happiness to children in Travis County.

Seniors Crafting with Purpose

Throughout late November and into early December, the Buda Oaks activity room became a bustling workshop. Residents gathered regularly to stitch teddy bears by hand, carefully assembling each one with attention and care. Alongside the crafting sessions, donation bins filled with children’s books were set up as staff, families, and community members joined the effort.

The project offered residents an opportunity to remain actively engaged while supporting a cause with direct local impact. For many, the act of creating something tangible, such as a bear meant to be hugged or a book one knows will be read, added a personal layer to the giving process.

The workshop remained active through early December, building anticipation for the moment when the completed bears and books would be passed along to their next destination.

We were delighted to welcome officers from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, December 1, as they collected the handmade teddy bears and donated books. This special moment was the result of weeks of teamwork and dedication from everyone involved.

These thoughtful gifts were prepared for the Brown Santa Program, which were shared with families throughout Travis County. Sending them off was a joyful occasion, and it was wonderful to see the hard work of our Buda Oaks community making a difference beyond our doors.

Residents and staff gathered to watch as the bears and books were loaded, sharing in the pride and happiness of knowing their efforts would soon bring joy to local children.
