Residents Serve Up Pasta for a Local Cause

Stirring Up More Than Spaghetti

At Buda Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care in Buda, TX, residents recently traded their usual routines for aprons, spatulas, and serving trays. The community hosted its 3rd Annual Spaghetti Benefit Dinner to support the Brown Santa Program, a holiday initiative that provides books, toys, and gifts to families in Hays County.

Before stepping into the kitchen, residents earned official food handler certifications. With their new credentials, they were ready to cook, plate, and serve pasta, showing that learning new skills can be practical and fun.

Learning While Giving Back

The dinner offered residents a chance to try something new while helping their community. Each resident took part by stirring pots, plating meals, and handing dishes to guests. Working together, they kept the evening running smoothly and ensured every guest received a serving.

“Watching residents prepare for this event—studying for their certifications and then stepping up to serve—was inspiring,” said Susan LaBree, Executive Director of Buda Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care. “They wanted to show that they can be hands-on in making a difference, and their determination made this dinner a success.”

Doubling the Impact

Last year’s dinner raised $800 for the Brown Santa Program. With contributions matched by Buda Oaks‘ ownership, the total reached $1,600, adding even more books, toys, and gifts for local families. Residents Making Every Plate Count

From the first stir to the last plate served, residents turned cooking into community support. Each effort added up, helping local families enjoy a brighter holiday season while giving residents a chance to learn, collaborate, and contribute.
