Our Santa’s Helpers Doubled Down This Year!

Buda Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care residents were busier than ever this holiday season. Through the annual ‘Brown Santa Toy Drive’ sponsored by our senior community, donations made to the needy exceeded everyone’s expectations. They were also a labor of love.

Here’s a friendly elf showing our Buda Oaks Santa’s Helpers how to make stuffed animals!

Underprivileged Children Received Book and Toy Donations From Seniors

At Buda Oaks, our residents and team members are committed to community service. In 2023, they participated in two wildly successful events: the ‘Brown Santa Toy Drive’ and a Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser.

The toy drive was part of the Brown Santa Programs coordinated by the Travis County and Hays County Sheriff’s Offices. Our lobby was transformed into a collection hub for new toys and books!

There was a lot of activity during the drive, with donations coming in and residents working on soft, fluffy foxes, kangaroos, highland cows, and llamas. They hand-stuffed 42 of those adorable animals, each with a heartfelt wish on a star for the child who received it. The stuffed animals, 109 books, and toys were distributed to underprivileged children. This marked Buda Oaks’ third year in this heartfelt tradition, led by Executive Director Susan LaBree. She has been leading this project for 11 years in total, so we were in good hands.

Before the Toy Drive, We Hosted a Spaghetti Dinner!

On September 22, a dedicated group of Buda Oaks residents, equipped with their food handler’s permits, collaborated with the kitchen staff to host a Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser. The event was a triumph, raising an impressive $747. The residents utilized the funds to go out and handpick the 109 books.

Both events were well organized and offered our residents the opportunity to make the holiday season brighter for those in need. The entire community was invited to join in and the results were truly heartwarming.
