At Buda Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care, residents recently enjoyed a series of animal visits that brought plenty of smiles and curiosity.
The older adults had a unique experience when the Aspen Hospice & Palliative Care teams from San Marcos and Bastrop introduced a gentle snake. Residents got hands-on, feeling its smooth scales and watching its calm movements with fascination.
Later in the day, the focus shifted to Penny, a lively dog who calls Buda Oaks home with her owner. The community hosted a “Penny Party,” giving residents the chance to shower her with attention, share laughs, and enjoy some playful moments together.
Both of the lovely moments became entertaining talking points for the CBS Austin morning news team when they shared pictures of the interactions with their viewers.
“Animals add a special energy to life here,” said Susan LaBree, Executive Director at Buda Oaks. “Watching our residents interact—whether it’s stroking Penny’s fur or gently exploring the snake—always sparks happiness and curiosity. These visits are something we truly look forward to.”
